Volunteers
Lancashire Police Authority operates two volunteer schemes across the county.
Independent custody visitors are a team of 60 volunteers who make unannounced visits to police stations to check on the welfare of detainees and the conditions in which they are held.
Animal Welfare visitors undertake random visits to the police dog training school and mounted branch stables to check on the welfare of the police dogs and horses. Visits are also undertaken to monitor the animals whilst they are out on training exercises.
Reports for each scheme are produced monthly and reviewed at the Authority's Professional Standards Committee.
To find out further information on the schemes, contact the scheme administrator on 01772 533462. Vacancies for these voluntary posts will feature on the Vacancies section of the website as and when they become available.
